What I Bought at the TpT Boost Sale

Ok, so if you know me, you know I love a SALE! :) I prefer a shoe sale, but I will take a Teacher's Pay Teacher's Sale 2nd. Ha!

During this weeks TpT Boost Sale, I decided to make purchases that I could use across various grades. Since I have to move around a lot due to seniority and good times, I thought, why not spruce up my travelling wagon with some new goods that are on sale and can help keep my classroom organized and functional!?!

Here they are:

I have been using a visual schedule for my kiddos since I began teaching 8 years ago, and tend to give it a new look each year depending on my d├ęcor. But I couldn't pass up these adorable editable schedule cards!

When I teach reading and writing, I focus on various genres, so that my students can attain a well rounded perspective on different pieces of work. You will see anchor charts and learning goals around the room. I intend to use these genre posters to display on top of my charts or goals throughout the year.
I LOVE this new alphabet pack, because it includes letter headers for the word wall, but also letters to line the top of your black/white board. I purchased a set at a teacher's store a few years back and every time I put it up, I cringe! I don't think I will be doing the same with these guys!

Quick little purchases, that make me smile :)

Almost the weekend... Happy Thursday!

Meet The Teacher cont.....

First “Linky” Party
So excited to be personally involved in my first “link” party.
Hi, I am the “C” in the K and C love grade 3.  I am very new to participating in blogging. I have been reading blogs and following blogs for a couple of years now, but new to participating in blogging events. Up until this summer, blogging has been something I am terrified of.  So worried to say to do the wrong thing that I did nothing but follow.
I also live in Ontario, Canada.  I actually live only a few minutes away from my partner Kaitlin. I have been teaching for 9 years and have not felt like I worked a day yet. My job is my hobby and normally my summers are spent setting up for September because I love it so much. This year I am not sure where I will be in September because this year I was also bumped due to seniority and enrollment.  I have taught  1st grade through 3rd grade, and loved each one the same.

I have three incredible children that are the light of my life. Melanie 23, Jocelyn 17 and Ben 15.  They are the most amazing,  thoughtful and kind children in the world. Of course I am a biased opinion, but if you talk to anyone else they would agree with me so I don’t feel at all wrong in my assessment of them. My hobbies outside of teaching include baking, cooking, reading, and as of lately, isometric stretching videos.  I have fallen in love with the full body workout by Miranda Esmonde-White.

THESE ARE A FEW OF MY FAVORITE THINGS...
Favorite food is pasta. Love to cook with a great glass of wine beside me.  Coffee in the morning with lots of milk.

IF YOU WEREN'T A TEACHER, WHAT WOULD YOU WANT TO BE?
I would want to own a bed and breakfast. It would be so much fun to restore an old farmhouse and cook and bake for guests.

THREE LITTLE WORDS THAT DESCRIBE YOU.
Smiley, patient and a pleaser.

FINISH THE SENTENCE, "________,  SAID NO TEACHER EVER!!"
“I have the summer off", said NO TEACHER EVER

Q: IT'S YOUR BIRTHDAY AND YOU CAN INVITE ANYONE {DEAD OR ALIVE} TO THE PARTY. WHO ARE YOU INVITING?
My brother Glen, he has missed the last seven of my birthdays due to his untimely passing.  Love you Glen. J

Q: IF SOMEONE WROTE A BOOK ABOUT YOUR LIFE, WHAT WOULD BE THE TITLE?
You have got to be Kidding ME!

Q: YOU GET TO PICK ONE SUPERPOWER. WHAT IS IT?
Would like to have Professor X’s power of telepathy. I would like to be able to be there when the people I care about need me.

Q: WHAT'S YOUR FAVORITE QUOTE OR SAYING?
It won’t surprise my partner Kaitlin at all to know the saying she picked is on my chalkboard in the kitchen.
But another one I like is “Everything will be ok in the end, and if it’s not ok it’s not the end.”

Q: IF YOU HAD TO SING ONE SONG ON AMERICAN IDOL, WHAT WOULD IT BE?
Try and Little Tenderness by Otis Redding.  Who doesn’t want to perform a song by him?

Q: ARE YOU A MORNING PERSON OR A NIGHT OWL?
I am a morning person I would guess.  People have told me it is unnatural to be that smiley in the morning before a cup of coffee.

Q: WHAT'S YOUR FAVOURITE RESOURCE THAT YOU'VE CREATED IN YOUR TPT SHOP?

Q:  SHARE SOMETHING WE MIGHT NOT KNOW ABOUT YOU?
I was on the cover of a magazine in 2003 for winning a makeover contest. lol

Meet the Teacher {Linky}

So excited to be linking up with "Falling Into First" for a Meet the Teacher Linky. If you are anything like me, you spend countless and mindless minutes and hours reading blogs, gathering teaching ideas. (It's definitely my hobby!) I have met so many teachers from around the world and have gathered so many fabulous ideas in the process. This linky gives us a chance to meet some of the teachers that we read regularly or meet some new teachers we may have just stumbled upon.

So here's a little about me...
I'm Kaitlin---The "K" in K&C Love Grade 3

I live in Ontario, Canada. I am entering my 8th year of teaching and have taught at 12 schools! (I get bumped because of seniority and enrollment). I have taught just about every grade and have LOVED just about every one.... which clearly tells me that I am meant for this career! It makes me happy!! (most days- lol).

I have been married to the love of my life for a little over 3 years. We LOVE to travel, play sports, watch movies and dine together. Most of all we LAUGH A LOT together. We have been on many adventures so far and I can't wait for ones to come :)

What I have been up this summer:

A bit of travel...

A little reading...

And a whole lot of relaxing! I can't complain!

THESE ARE A FEW OF MY FAVORITE THINGS...
Travelling. Drinking good wine. Working-out outdoors. Playing sports. Tea lattes.
Grilled cheese sandwiches & tomato soup. The show Fixer Upper. Pottery Barn. A warm sweater on a cool day. Manners.

IF YOU WEREN'T A TEACHER, WHAT WOULD YOU WANT TO BE?
An interior decorator .... or a professional classroom decorator. But I can't really imagine being anything other than a teacher, to be honest.

THREE LITTLE WORDS THAT DESCRIBE YOU.
Hardworking. Honest. Happy.

FINISH THE SENTENCE, "________,  SAID NO TEACHER EVER!!"
"My job ends when the bell rings", said NO TEACHER EVER

Q: IT'S YOUR BIRTHDAY AND YOU CAN INVITE ANYONE {DEAD OR ALIVE} TO THE PARTY. WHO ARE YOU INVITING?
I am going with people who make me laugh--because life is too short to be a crab.

Jimmy Fallon- He does the best imitations and I just love his humour and laugh!
Paul Rudd- He's my movie boyfriend, plus he's sarcastically funny.
My friend Sue- Because she's nuts and would love to sit with these two. We would have a hoot!

Q: IF SOMEONE WROTE A BOOK ABOUT YOUR LIFE, WHAT WOULD BE THE TITLE?
Dancing with Honesty, Sarcasm & Laughter

Q:YOU GET TO PICK ONE SUPERPOWER. WHAT IS IT?
Teleportation. I would love to be on a vacation pronto-- no waiting in airports, driving in a car etc.

Q: WHAT'S YOUR FAVORITE QUOTE OR SAYING?

“Be who you are and say what you feel, because those who mind don't matter, and those who matter don't mind.”

Q: IF YOU HAD TO SING ONE SONG ON AMERICAN IDOL, WHAT WOULD IT BE?
"Ain't No Mountain High Enough" by Marvin Gaye
My sister and I use to sing this ALL THE TIME growing up. Whenever it's on, we automatically begin a duet!

Q: ARE YOU A MORNING PERSON OR A NIGHT OWL?

I love sleep, so I guess I am neither. Ha!

Q: WHAT'S YOUR FAVORITE RESOURCE THAT YOU'VE CREATED IN YOUR TPT SHOP?

Bad habit, but ohhh so great!

HOW TO BEGIN AGAIN

First of all I want to send out a huge "Thank you" to my partner and incredible friend Kaitlin.

Kaitlin has been holding it all together.  She has been keeping you informed on what is going on in the world of K&C. Things have been exciting to say the least and for me quite overwhelming. So before I start, I want to say again to my partner- You have been so wonderful and I appreciate the time you have given me to get organized and put things in my life in order. You know I would do anything for you and I just want you to know that I never take a day working with you for granted. :)

Glad to be back

With all that said, I am glad to be back. I have been doing quite a bit of research since the conference we attended in Las Vegas. (Hope you enjoyed the post about our trip)
I have spent the last month watching tutorials, updating my computer (thanks to my sweet brother) and reading tons of incredible blogs. Up till now the blogging world and the social media world have been a mystery to me. After attending the conference, I realized that it is a mystery I need to figure out and join. For a while, I have been struggling with where to begin, how do I even start to understand a world I have kept myself apart from. Each year I feel I have grown a little bit, but after the conference, I felt that it just wasn't enough. Just take blogging, for example, the first year of K&C I would blog when something great would happen in my class or if I felt it was something other's could learn from or love to try. That year, I was not on any type of schedule, it has been just whenever I felt like it.  Blogging for me is something that doesn't come very natural and because I feel I am weak when it comes to grammar and the English language, I feel a lot of pressure when I am putting something written out for other's to read. The second year of K&C I decided to have a set schedule of when I was going to blog, I even went as far as to set it as a reminder in my phone and a friend's phone, so each Sunday I would have two reminders to blog. (Thanks Friend ;)
So here I am in our third year of K&C and I am hoping to do more.  Among the many tutorials and blogs, and articles I have read, I came across one about blogging that I hope will be helpful to me this year.

I have also come across a grammar program called "ginger" that will proof read all my feeds and provide an easier, more adequate read for our followers. So if you are at all like me and struggle with grammar/writing and the English language this free program is for you.

Ready to Begin Again

At the end of this school year I was laid off. So like my partner Kaitlin, I no longer have a school or know what grade I will be teaching in September. I will, however, find out most of this information at the end of August.

I have been working on a package for the first week of school that is an interactive book for the classroom. This book is one that you create with your students, laminate and bind and it would be used as a reference for the whole year as well as a getting to know you and your classmates and teacher album. I am excited to be able to offer a package that, when it is complete, you will have an interactive published piece of work in the classroom.  I liked the idea because I will be starting in a new school and I want to learn and provide as much information as I can with my class and what better way to do that than having a joint publication that the students and I produce together.  My idea is, that once this book is created, it can be signed out to each student for a night to share with their families. I wanted to create something for teachers in my position with new classrooms and new schools as well as making something that would benefit any teacher and any class, as a back to school activity to be proud of.

So that has been my journey this July. I am ready to take some risks and push myself a little harder. I am excited to be working on a back to school package that I am sure any teacher would enjoy having in their classroom. I hope you follow our blog so you are up to date with our sales/giveaways and all the great ideas we like to share.

New package coming soon :)

Thank you for stopping by our blog!

BACK TO SCHOOL SALE!!!!!

It's August..... so you know what that means? I am sure you have already started seeing back to school commercials....like in MAY, but c'mon! Our official back to school sale begins August 4th- August 5th through Teacher's Pay Teacher's, where you will receive a 28% off all products using the code BTS14 at checkout.

Here are a few of our favourite back to school goodies :)

Great for sending ONE folder home a week, instead of things EVERY night. We have had great parent feedback about this method- as it's practical and a "work at your own pace, within your own schedule" kinda deal (for parents and families).

A great way to keep your students work organized throughout the school year! Great way for kids and parents to see progress throughout. Use it at parent/teacher interview nights, on the report card and give as a keepsake in June! LOVE!
If you are feeling a little more ambitious, why not try to keep a little sampling of more than one subject. It's a GREAT way to show the kids how much they have improved throughout the year. It includes reflection and goal sheets too! Take a peak!

A great way to honour the kiddos in your class in a unique way! Kids LOVE this week long celebration of THEM and parents have had nothing but positive feedback for us.

Use magazine cardboard holders (dollarstore) and have the kids store all of their independent reading materials inside. This pack has all the things to get you started :)

Other great packs include:
- Absent Students (Folder to keep track of missed work when students are away)
-My Transition Book (Helping students with Special Needs transition to their new class)
- Day Planner (All you need to get your day book organized for the new school year)

Pick up these packs and more.... ON SALE
from August 4th - August 5th!

HAPPY SHOPPING!
