Easy-Peasy Visual Arts Lessons

Visual Arts is definitely not my forte, but I do however enjoy it. I know some teachers hate glue and supplies and anything that can make a little mess, but we all know, that's what the kids love! LOL. So there are two lessons-- One for the neat and clean teacher and one for the teacher that doesn't mind getting a little messy. For the past few weeks we have been working on various elements of design. We started off with an easy lesson handed down from a colleague, which I tweaked a bit. It's easy, but turns out lovely. This is "Fall Inspired", but you could definitely adapt this for any season (using various colours). Our focus was the effect of warm and cool colours on a piece of art. World Down Syndrome Day 2016

Today is the day. The day to ROCK YOUR SOCKS! Why World Down Syndrome Day (WDSD)? WDSD exists to celebrate individuals with Down syndrome by choosing activities that show support and awareness to those individuals. Rocking Socks has become and easy, attainable and VERY visual way to demonstrate this support around the globe. We are seeking to share what it IS to have Down syndrome - something to be celebrated. We are advocating for the inclusion, respect and understanding that individuals with Down syndrome have a great deal to offer their communities. This day occurs on the 21st day of the 3rd month because we celebrate the 3rd copy of the 21st chromosome which is what makes Down syndrome. My dear friends Stephanie and Matt and their daughters Hazel and Nola are part of a large community who have committed themselves to educating and promoting the inclusion of individuals with Down syndrome. Elementary Ideas

Quick post tonight.... Last week Christine and I posted some Remembrance Day painting pics. It was an idea that we brainstormed over a cup of coffee a few weeks back. We often try to create ideas that can reach across many grades, with increased expectations as the grade level changes. Here is the visual arts activity in Christine's grade 3 classroom----The students also brainstormed words for Remembrance Day and chose a sentence that explained how they felt. Here is my group of grade 7's art. The students used various elements of design such as line, shape, colour and texture. The students then created many questions and comments from varying perspectives-- The wrote from the point of view of a grade 7 student, a soldier returning from war, and a poppy in Flanders Fields.
